Unacceptably dirty and unsanitary bathrooms/showers. The only body of water on site is a dirty pond. The playground equipment is a hazard.old and rusty. There are no activities for children.or for anyone. It is not family friendly.or friendly at all. There is little joy in this campground.…Ĭamping at Whispering Pines is like a bad dream. We tried to keep to ourselves and not bother the staff most of the time we were there. Would they prefer to have the campground entirely to themselves? Because it was pretty empty, but not quite. But every other interaction was unpleasant, and we felt like we were bothering the staff by being there. We did have one positive interaction: the woman who first checked us in was friendly.
Just don't expect anyone to smile at you or provide customer service. And here I will note that the purchase of wood from the office is also required - you can't bring in your own. Another time we went to the office to buy firewood and the guy sighed and said he could only take cash - which we had - in fact we had the exact amount - and still he sighed as he got us the wood as if our purchase of wood was an inconvenience.
Later we watched them fill the propane tanks (because actually we were right there really was no hot water). When we informed staff there was no hot water in the bathrooms, they argued with us and told us we just had to find the right spot on the dial. Showers were out of order "due to the previous winter" a handwritten sign explained, which would be understandable except they remained out of order the entire time we were there. There is a snack bar that was perpetually closed. The roads are terrible: you have to drive around potholes and ruts (chasms, really) that get bigger with each rainfall. It's a beautiful location, and would be a nice campground if it were kept up.
